Letter

Mr. Seward to Mr. Adams, January 19, 1864

Mr. Seward to Mr.
Adams.

No. 820.]

Sir: I have received, and have submitted to the
President, the very elaborate, logical, and earnest address which is
signed Ed. Benort, grand master, and other officers of the Reformed
Masonic Order of the reformed rite of Memphis, and I have to request
you, in the President’s name, to carry to those gentlemen his grateful
acknowledgments for the unanswerable argument in behalf of the cause of
the United States which they have produced in a form so very respectful
and liberal towards himself.

I am, sir, your obedient servant,

WILLIAM H. SEWARD.

Charles F. Adams, Esq., &c., &c., &c.
