Col. LORENZO THOMAS, ` Adjutant-General U. S. Army, Washington, D. O.: COLONEL: I have the honor to tender the resignation of my commission in the Army of the United States, and to request that it may be submitted tọ the President for his action; and I have also respectfully to ask that my successor may be appointed and ordered to relieve me as soon as practicable.
