Department of State, Washington, October 7, 1864.
Sir: I have to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch of the 16th of September, No. 785, relating to the action of the civil authorities at Dover, in the case of the three men who deserted from the United States ship Iroquois, at the above-named port, on the 13th ultimo. Your proceedings in the matter are approved. I shall reserve the subject for consideration.
