GENERAL ORDERS, } HEADQUARTERS OAVALRY DIVISION,

January 13, 1863.

No. 1. Grenada, Miss., January 13, 1863.

By order of the lieutenant-general commanding the Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana the undersigned assumes command of all the cavalry in his department, with the exception of that in District No. 2. Complete reports, exhibiting the strength and organization of each cavalry command, will therefore be made without delay to the adjutant-general at my headquarters (Maj. M. M. Kimmel); also the number and condition of horses, equipments, arms, and accouterments, and, in a word, of everything necessary to give me a perfect knowledge of the condition of the cavalry assigned to my command. Active measures will be taken at once to put the cavalry in condition to take the field.
