William Hunter to Charles Francis Adams, May 5, 1865

Mr. Hunter to Mr. Adams

No. 1397.]

Sir: Your despatch of the 14th ultimo, No. 928, together with its accompanying address by the Anti-slavery Society of Glasgow to the late lamented President Abraham Lincoln, has been received. Though Divine Providence has seen fit to remove from our midst the great man to whom these congratulations are addressed, you may, at a convenient opportunity, inform the society that the present Chief Magistrate highly appreciates this token of their sympathy with the great work which he has been called to complete.

I am, sir, your obedient servant,

W. HUNTER, Acting Secretary.

Charles Francis Adams, Esq., &c., &c., &c.
