Letter

Clapp to William Hunter, September 12, 1872

No. 24. Mr. Clapp to Mr. Hunter.

[Extract.]

No. 21.]

Sir: I have the honor to report that no perceptible change has taken place in the condition of affairs as respects the difficulty between the Argentine Republic and Brazil. Reports as to the success of the mission of General Mitre are conflicting.

I stated in a former dispatch that a portion of the Grand Chaco, about which more than any other matter this trouble with Brazil has arisen, is claimed by the republic of Bolivia. Señor R. Cordona has lately arrived at this capital, as special envoy from Bolivia, for the settlement of this question.

I am, &c.

DEXTER E. CLAPP.
