Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your note, dated the 2d instant, kindly furnishing me with an account of the report of Governor Watson Squire, of Washington Territory, in regard to the persons accused of killing certain Chinese residents in Seattle, Wash., and to the precautions taken to prevent an outbreak against the Chinese.
I beg to express to you, Mr. Secretary, my thanks for your courtesy.
