No. 303. Mr. Evarts to Baron Blanc.
Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your note of the 4th instant, communicating an expression of the gratitude of His Majesty, the King of Italy, to the President, for his presence at the funeral services, held in Washington, in memory of King Victor Emanuel II; also of the appreciation of the Government of Italy of the participation in the ceremonies of representatives of different branches of the Government of the United States.
In reply I have the honor to inform you that measures have been taken with a view to complying with your request relative to the conveyance of these sentiments to the principal representatives of the government, who cannot fail to receive them with that gratification which is due to the high source from which they come.
