My Lord: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your note of the 21st ultimo, in regard to the case of the Sylvanus, touching first upon the sinking of the vessel, and next upon the treatment of the crew. I have to state, for your lordship’s information, that I have called upon the Secretary of the Navy for a full investigation of the case, upon the conclusion of which I shall again have the honor of addressing your lordship on the subject.
