Mr. Seward to Mr. Geofroy

Sir: Recurring to your note of the 2d of March last, relative to A. Cauvet, alleged to have been improperly enlisted into the United States, army, I have the honor to enclose, in reply, a copy of a communication of the 8th instant from the Secretary of War, from which it appears that the person to wham your note relates died from wounds received in battle.

Accept, sir, a renewed assurance of my high consideration.
