Captain: Inclosed please find letter from General E. Kirby Smith touching the impressment of cotton. Ihave explained the condition of the State’s cotton to Lieutenant-General Smith, and deemed it best to get from him the letter inclosed.

Please to lay it immediately before the general.

I received on yesterday your communication relative to the State arms. I leave for Austin in a few days, and will communicate with you immediately after my arrival at that point.
