ASSISTANT ADJUTANT GENERAL, Headquarters Department of the West, Saint Louis, Mo. : Intimations from various quarters are that this place is to be attacked soon by a heavy force from Columbus. We need more artillery, say

24-pounder howitzers, with plenty of ammunition for the same. O. F. SMITH,-
