Letter

Thos. L. Snead to VAN Dorn, Holly Springs, Miss, September 13, 1862

September 13, 1862.

Camp No. 4, Peyton’s Mili, Miss., September 13, 1862. Brigadier-General MAURY, Commanding Division :

GENERAL: Armstrong is at Iuka. He drove in the enemy’s pickets at about 11 a. m., but had to retire when the enemy opened their artillery. He thinks that they have only one brigade. General Price will advance to-night as soon as the moon rises. You will push forward with two brigades of your infantry, bringing one day’s rations on the person and leaving a detail behind to bring on two days’ rations in the wagons. The distance is about 13 miles from here.

Very respectfully,

Assistant Adjutant-General.
TuKA, Miss., September 14, 1862.
General VAN Dorn, Holly Springs, Miss. :
Rosecrans has gone westward with abont 10,000 men. I am ready
to co-operate with you in an attack upon Corinth. My courier awaits
your answer.
