From the legation of H. L. M. the Shah of Persia, at Paris, to the United States Minister.
Paris, May 9, 1865.
I have just received a telegram from Teheran, expressive of the horror felt by the government of his imperial Majesty the Shah of Persia at the news of the assassination of Mr. Lincoln.
I am requested by him to express to you his great regrets on this occasion, and to ask you to transmit them to your new President. Accept the assurance of my very high consideration.
