No. 166. Mr. West to Mr. Frelinghuysen.

Sir: Referring to your note of the 14th of August last, I have the honor to inform you that I am instructed by Earl Granville to express to you the thanks of Her Majesty’s Government for the measures taken by the United States Government for preventing the sale of whisky by American traders to Canadian Indians and half-breeds on the northwest frontier, and for the friendly action taken in this matter by the United States authorities.
