Sir:On the 13th instant I had audience of his Majesty to deliver the letter of the President responsive to the announcement of the death of the late King Frederick VII. I was also received by her Majesty the Queen. While both feel deeply the position in which they are placed, they both expressed a deep interest in our national welfare. His Majesty the King wished me to convey this to the President of the United States, this thanks for his letter of condolence and his cordial wish for the speedy restoration of peace to our country.
