PRUYN, Minister Resident in Japan to William H. Seward, May 1, 1863

Mr. Pruyn to Mr. Seward

No. 17.]

I have the honorSir: to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch, (No. 29,) of the 13th December, 1862, which, immediately on its receipt, I read to the governors for foreign affairs; on which occasion I again urged, in the strongest possible manner, the necessity of bringing the offenders, in the tragical transaction therein referred to, to punishment, and to make reparation without delay.

I have the honor to be, sir, very respectfully, your most obedient servant,

ROBERT H. PRUYN, Minister Resident in Japan.

Hon. William H. Seward, Secretary of State, Washington.
