[35] *Vice-Admiral Porter, for Secretary of the Wavy, to Mr. Fish, Secretary of State.
Navy Department, Washington, April 6, 1860.
Sir: I have the honor to inform you that a report having reached this Department that an expedition was fitting out at, or had sailed from, New Orleans, to land in Cuba, instructions were immediately sent by telegraph to Bear-Admiral H. K. Hoff, commanding the North Atlantic squadron, to endeavor to arrest the expedition. He has telegraphed in reply that he would leave Havana the 3d of April for the Mississippi, in execution of the Department’s orders.
