Sir: I have the honor to apprise you of the receipt of a letter from the War Department, of to-day’s date, saying that Col. A. McD. McCook, and Lieut. S. W. Groesbeek, adjutant of the Sixth United States Infantry, met Colonel Bee and his colleagues yesterday, the 16th instant, at Ogden City, Utah, and left with them for Rock Springs, Wyoming Territory, to investigate the recent assault upon the Chinese laborers in that vicinity.
