Major-General Birney to J. C. Briscoe, November 8, 1863

HEADQUARTERS THIRD CORPS,

November 8, 1863—7.15 a. m. Brigadier-General Ward, commanding First Division, will flank the batteries attached to his division with a column of infantry on both sides wherever practicable. He will also flank the reserve batteries in his rear in same manner.

If General Sedgwick has crossed, I would like to send the Second
Corps to Stevensburg.
