Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the reception of your No. 506, of the 8th ultimo, in relation to the removal to the United States of the remains of John Howard Payne, and to say that immediately after its arrival I addressed Lord Granville, communicating the additional requests of the Department of State. I have to-day received a reply from the foreign office by which it will appear that your wishes in the matter will be attended to. I inclose a copy of this correspondence.
