No. 182. Count Litta to Mr. Evarts.
[Translation.]
Legation of Italy in the United States, Washington, September 15, 1877.
Mr. Secretary of State: I have the honor to inform your excellency that the Government of His Majesty the King, my august sovereign, has instructed me to give notice of its desire for the termination of the consular convention concluded between Italy and the United States February 8, 1868, availing itself of the privilege granted to the parties who signed it by article 17 of said convention. My government advises me that a similar communication has been made to the legation of the United States at Borne.
I avail myself of this occasion to renew, &c.
LITTA.
