GENERAL ORDERS, } HDQRS. DISTRICT OF THE TENNESSEE,
September 16, 1862.

No. 35. Camp No. 5, Iuka, Miss., September 16, 1862. I. Brig. Gen. John O. Moore will assume command of all troops in that part of the District of the Tennessee which is south of a line drawn east and west through Booneville. He will establish his headquarters at Tupelo. All officers commanding posts or troops within the limits above defined will report to him and obey his orders.

Adjutant and Inspector General, Richmond, Va. :
General Price, telegraphing from Iuka 14th, desires me to inform you
that he marched from Guntown on 11th to attack Rosecrans, who was
understood to be at Iuka with about 10,000 men. Rosecrans retreated
