John Jay to Gouverneur Morris, August 1775
[Elizabethtown, August 1775]
D r . Morris
I have rec d your Letter of the 28 th Ult. and take the earliest opportunity wh. has offered of answering it. The Principles on which you account for hav g delayed Notices of Tryal on the West Chester Causes merit my Acknowledgm ts
You need be under no apprehension of Non Suits in case you sh d . prevail upon yourself to postpone the Tryal which I confess I cant forbear wishing may be the Case, tho it not does not appear to me altogether reasonable to request it–
As to the omission of a Terms Notice, I beg you will be perfectly easy–be assured that my Conduct towards you on this as well as all other occasions will be such as Friendship may dictate & [ illegible ] approve–
[ illegible ] The Person who is to be the bearer of this, is about setting off–I must therefore conclude without adding any Thing except to request that you will let me hear from you soon & often, and to assure you that I am &c.
