Letter

John Jay to Gouverneur Morris, August 1775

[Elizabethtown, August 1775]

D r . Morris

I have rec d your Letter of the 28 th Ult. and take the earliest opportunity wh. has offered of answering it. The Principles on which you account for hav g delayed Notices of Tryal on the West Chester Causes merit my Acknowledgm ts

You need be under no apprehension of Non Suits in case you sh d . prevail upon yourself to postpone the Tryal which I confess I cant forbear wishing may be the Case, tho it not does not appear to me altogether reasonable to request it–€”

As to the omission of a Terms Notice, I beg you will be perfectly easy–€”be assured that my Conduct towards you on this as well as all other occasions will be such as Friendship may dictate & [ illegible ] approve–€”

[ illegible ] The Person who is to be the bearer of this, is about setting off–€”I must therefore conclude without adding any Thing except to request that you will let me hear from you soon & often, and to assure you that I am &c.
