General ROBERT ALLEN, Saint Lowis, Mo. :

I have telegraphed to General Grant that it is not intended to use the railroads south of Memphis, and that only such cars and locomotives must be purchased as were necessary for the roads already in operation.

A dispatch from General Rosecrans, of date Nashville, Tenn., Novem. ber 21, 1862, just received, says there are some indications that the rebels are attempting to cross the Tennessee from the east; that signs to that effect reached him that night. You will send out spies and scouts east and obtain all the information possible.
