Los Angeles, Cal., December 13, 1861.
Maj. DAvID FERGUSSON, First Cavalry California Volunteers, Comdy. Camp Wright: MAJOR: If the company of infantry which has been ordered from your camp to Fort Yuma has not left your camp let it remain in readiness to move until further orders. If it has already gone when this reaches you, send an express to stop it until Colonel Eyre arrives. It need not return to your camp, but wait, say, at Vallecito, where there is grass for the animals, until he comes. I am, major,
very respectfully,
JAMES H. CARLETON,
