Sir: Acknowledging the receipt of your dispatch, No. 254, of the 27th ultimo, in relation to the invitation to the von Steuben family to attend the Yorktown centennial celebration, I have to inform you that your action in securing passage on the Herder, at the expense of this government, for the seven officers who accepted the invitation in question, is fully approved by this Department.
