Washington, March 3, 1865.
Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your note of the 1st instant, relative to the information furnished by Mr.——— in regard to the hostile expeditions in Canada against the peace of the United States, and beg to state, in reply, that I have addressed a confidential communication on the subject to his excellency the governor general of Canada.
