Sir: We are deputed by the court of directors of this bank to convey to you, and through you to the government of the United States of America, the expression of their sincere sympathy at the heavy calamity which has befallen, not only your country but our own, and, in fact, the whole world, by the cruel assassination of your high-minded and patriotic President.
