Letter
Hamilton Fish to Sir Edward Thornton, May 11, 1872
No. 149. Mr. Fish to Sir Edward Thornton.
Department of State, Washington, May 11, 1872.
Sir: Referring to the correspondence and conversations which have passed on the subject of the boundary-line between the United States and the British possessions in North America, from the Lake of the Woods to the Rocky Mountains, I have now the honor to inform you that Congress has authorized the President to co-operate with the government of Great Britain in the appointment of a joint commission to determine the said boundary-line, and to inquire whether any measures have been taken for this purpose by your government.
As the season is advancing, it is desirable that the joint commission should be organized as early as possible.
I have, &c,
HAMILTON FISH.
