December 25, 1862. Maj. Gen. W. W. LORING, Commanding First Oorps, c&c.:

GENERAL: My scouts have just returned, and report the enemy as having crossed Yocona River with their whole force. They are moving off on all the roads leading north and quite a large force moving west. The scouts passed through all their encampments on this side of the river and represent them as being very extensive. Their route was up through Paris and returned through Water Valley.
