Letter
George Wright to Thomas R. Cornelius, May 16, 1862
HEADQUARTERS DEPARTMENT OF THE PACIFIC,
San Francisco, Cal., May 16, 1862.
Col. THOMAS R. CORNELIUS, First Cavalry Oregon Volunteers, Portland, Oreg.:
CoLONEL: I have placed Colonel Steinberger, of the First Infantry Washington Territory Volunteers, in command of the District of Oregon, to whom you will please report for special instructions in relation to the duties upon which I propose to employ your regiment during the approaching summer and fall. I have ordered sixty pistols to be sent to each of your companies, and as many sabers as can be supplied by the ordnance department. Iam happy to hear that your companies are nearly filled, and I doubt not that the Oregon regiment will be a credit to that State.
With great respect, I am, colonel, your obedient servant,
G. WRIGHT;
Brigadier-General, U. S. Army, Commanding.
