New Windsor [ New York ] February 24, 1781 . Believes that if Comte d’Estaing’s reported victory is true, it means a speedy and victorious end to the war. Sends details of detachment’s march to Virginia. Reports rumors concerning Sir Henry Clinton. Is delaying his visit to Rhode Island until he ascertains what move Clinton will make as a result of the Virginia expedition.
