Dispatch
Geo. A. H. Blake, July 5, 1861
HEADQUARTERS,
Fort Churchill, Nev. Ter., July 5, 1861.
MAJOR: I have the honor to report for the information of the general commanding the department, that Shokup, the head chief and most influential man of the Shoshone tribe, from Ruby Valley, came into the garrison to-day on a visit. He represents his people peaceably disposed toward the whites, and that he will do all in his power to keep them so. He says his people are very poor, and much in want of provisions. The overland stage men say that this chief is a good friend of theirs, and is peaceably disposed toward them. I am, sir,
very respectfully, your obedient servant,
GEO. A. H. BLAKE,
Major, First Dragoons, Commanding Post.
Major, First Dragoons, Commanding Post.
