Frederick T. Frelinghuysen to Denaut, September 22, 1883

No. 159. Mr. Frelinghuysen to Mr. Denaut.

Sir: I have to acknowledge the receipt of your note of the 12th instant, informing the Department that your Government had determined to reconvene the conference upon the subject of protection to submarine cables, for the purpose of concluding the project of a convention drawn up in November last, and, in recognition of your accompanying request, to signify the concurrence of this Government in the contemplated reunion upon October 15 next.

The delegates of the United States have accordingly been instructed to-day by telegraph to attend the conference and conclude the proposed convention, and that pending the receipt of formal full powers, which will be duly forwarded, they will act upon the authority of their cable instructions.
