Sir: In compliance with the instructions contained in your No. 149 of the 20th of last January, relating to the protection afforded to Colombian citizens in Peru by the minister of the United States at Lima, I addressed a note to the Colombian secretary of foreign relations embodying the statements contained in your dispatch, and I am now in receipt of an answer from that gentleman in which he makes due acknowledgment of the friendly services of Mr. Christiancy, as well as expressing a proper appreciation of the approval extended to his action by the Department.
