HEADQUARTERS DEPARTMENT,

March 18, 1865—7.15 p.m. General HARTSUFF: Cobb’s Hill signal officer reported at 3 p.m. that the enemy had placed double the usual number of pickets on the west of his tower. You had better increase your picket-line some on that part’of your front.
