Mr. Davis, Acting Secretary of State, to Mr. Potestad, of the Spanish legation.

[109] Sir: Referring to your note of the 21st instant, I have the honor to inform you that on the 17th instant the Attorney-General, having received the same information from other sources, called the attention of the district attorney and marshal of the United States *in Florida to the subject, and that the senior officer in charge of the North Atlantic squadron was, on the receipt of your letter, also apprised of the information it contained.
