Letter

De Broglie to Washburne, September 8, 1873

[Inclosure—Translation.]

Duc de Broglie to Mr. Washburne.

Sir: In the letter which you did me the honor to write me on the 15th July last, you expressed the wish to receive two copies of the last annual report on the manufacture of coin in France.

The minister of the finances, to whom I hastened to apply for these documents, has replied to me that they are not published separately, and that they form part of the general statement of the administration of the finances under the title of “Compte du service des monnaies,” comprising, in addition to detailed statements of all the operations of the mints, a recapitulation of the coin struck up to the 31st of December of each year.

However, as the last printed report is that for the year 1870, Mr. Magne has thought it well to send me, in reply to your request, the statement of the coinage of 1871 and 1872.

I have the honor, sir, to transmit them to you herewith.

Receive, sir, &c.,

DE BROGLIE.
