Letter

Count Manderstrom to Campbell, January 4, 1865

[Translation.]

Count Manderstrom to Mr. Campbell

Sir: I have had the honor to receive the communication dated the second of this month, in which you express to me, by direction of your government, the satisfaction which it has experienced from the friendly treatment which the steamship Wachusett, of the United States navy, had received during a recent visit to the colony of St. Bartholomew.

In acting thus, the governor has only fulfilled the intentions and instructions of his government. The ships of the United States can always rely upon the most cordial reception in the ports of the united kingdoms and their dependencies.

In having the honor to offer you the assurance of this, I seize the occasion to add thereto, sir, that of my most distinguished consideration

MANDERSTROM.

Mr. Campbell, Minister Resident of the U. S. of America, &c..
