[Inclosure in No. 440.—Translation.]

Competitive regulation for the pupils of the imperial androyal Oriental Academy to be received in the academic year 1880–’81.

Those students who are candidates for admission into the imperial and royal Oriental Academy must address the requisite application to the director of the institution to be presented by the end of September at the latest.

The candidates must attach to their applications these documents:

  • Certificate of birth.
  • Testimonial of vaccination.
  • Testimonial of health.
  • All testimonials in regard to the satisfactory result of the passed gymnasial studies, including the certificate of graduation. (Maturität.)
  • All existing testimonials in regard to previous learning of foreign languages, especially of the French.

To the prescribed examination in writing for the purpose of admission which is to be held in the building of the imperial and royal Oriental Academy (3 Jacobe-gasse) only those candidates will be allowed who have duly produced the before-named documents.

The subjects of the said examination are the following:

  • History of the states composing the Austro-Hungarian monarchy.
  • A translation from Latin into German.
  • A translation from French into German.
  • A translation from German into French.

Each pupil must pay annually for board and instruction the sum of 800 florins, Austrian currency, which is to be paid in half yearly term installments in advance, at the pay office of the imperial and royal ministry of the imperial house and for foreign affairs; and further, he must, on his entrance into the academy, pay an outfit sum, occurring but once, of 100 florins, Austrian currency.

The allotment of the foundation places (by sovereign authority changed to state endowments) which are granted as emulation premiums to pupils of the institution who most excel, takes place always at the close of the academic year, or under particular circumstances also at the close of the first semestral term, and in this allotment preference is given to the students without means over those with means.

The pupils of the institution graduating as academic foundation scholars have before all others claim for consideration in filling the regular posts of consular clerks (eleves) which may become vacant; and until they may be provided for in this or in some other post in the government service, they will enjoy free board and lodging in the institution in the same manner as they had it in their former quality of foundation scholars; while on the other hand, those who during the five years’ academic course of instruction were unable to obtain a foundation place can expect the appointment of regular consular clerk only as the service may require, and after the academic foundation scholars have been provided for.

The Directors of the Imperial and Royal Oriental Academy.
