Charles Francis Adams to M. H. Foster, July 21, 1866

Mr. Adams to Mr. Foster.

Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the reception of your letter of the 20th instant covering a draft on the Bank of England, payable to my order, for the sum of £27,802, 1s. 8d., being the portion due to the United States of America, and paid over by the lords commisssioners of her Majesty’s treasury on account of the Japanese indemnity.

On behalf of my government, I beg permission through you to express my thanks to the lords commissioners for the facilities furnished to it in the transmission of this money.
