Mr. Mackenna to Mr. Root
Santiago, July 12, 1872.
Sir: I have the honor of placing within the knowledge of your excellency that this Intendencia has unanimously decided to name one of the new streets of Santiago with the name of Root street, (Calle de Root,) in memory and honor of the generous and philanthropic services which your excellency has been pleased to lend to the unhappy sick during the epidemic which has afflicted and yet saddens the city. God guard your excellency.
