[Preakness, New Jersey, November 18, 1780]

Dr. Sir

You will see that Mr. Farge 2 is a man in distress. The General has given him an order to draw rations. From his situation he cannot draw them dayly. Can you advance him for two or three months at a time? This is wholly private.
