A. Cady to James P. Major, November 25, 1861

HEADQUARTERS DISTRICT OF OREGON,

MAJOR: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt by this morning’s mail of your letter of the 15th instant, and to state, in reply thereto, that the telegraphic dispatch referred to appears to have been received at this place on the 7th of October, and that orders were issued the same day by the commander of the district (Colonel Beall)

for the recall of the detachment with Lieutenant Mullan in terms as follows:

report thereon has been received from him. Lieutenant Wildrick, Third Artillery, acting assistant adjutant-general at the time the orders were sent, and who is now at San Francisco, can furnish full particulars in regard to the transmission of the orders both to and beyond Walla Walla.
