Letters from Charles Armand

B. 1751 · D. 1793

Charles Armand Tuffin, marquis de la Rouërie was a French army officer who served in the American Revolutionary War. He was promoted to brigadier general after the siege of Yorktown and led Chouan rebels during the Chouannerie. La Rouërie is less-remembered than Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette and other Frenchmen in writings on France in the American Revolutionary War.

Charles Armand to Alexander Hamilton, August 21, 1779

From Charles Armand
To Alexander Hamilton
August 21, 1779

He objects to being treated like a prisoner while Wanderburgh retains authority, and awaits explicit orders from higher command before yielding his position.
